Mondo Minerals B.V.’s talc processing plant in Vuonos, Outokumpu, has renewed its filtration process as the existing filter had reached the end of its lifecycle. Roxia responded to this need by delivering a new Roxia Tower Press™ 16 38m² filter, bringing the latest technological solutions on the market combined with a high level of operational safety in one package.
Before the final delivery decision, Roxia performed pilot filtration tests to determine the optimal filtration cycle for the process. This ensured the targeted capacity as well as a consistently dry, high‑quality filter cake. The results clearly demonstrated that the new filtration solution would be a significant improvement over the outgoing, end‑of‑life equipment.
Mondo Minerals B.V. ordered a complete solution from Roxia, including the delivery of the new Roxia Tower Press™ 16, 38m², installation, commissioning, and operator training. The entire project was completed on schedule, and the filter was successfully taken into operation without delays.
The customer describes the cooperation as follows:
“Cooperation with Roxia has been smooth from start to finish. Already during the design phase it was clear that the work was carried out by true professionals. The workmanship was neat, careful and the overall solution was clearly well thought through. The automation and PLC user interface were also excellently designed. Commissioning proceeded smoothly, and at no stage were we left on our own. Any issues that arose were resolved together with an open and solution‑oriented approach. In the end, the project progressed well and we were left with a very positive overall impression,” says Harri Multanen, Development Engineer at Mondo Minerals.
Why Tower Press™ Technology Excels in Talc Filtration
Talc filtration is one of the most demanding solid–liquid separation tasks in the mineral industry. The material’s extremely fine particle size, hydrophobic nature and strict purity requirements make stable, efficient dewatering a challenge.
The TP16 is particularly well suited for talc thanks to its ability to produce very dry cakes, maintain high filtration efficiency, and operate fully automatically. Features such as forcible cake discharge and continuous cloth cleaning keep the filtration surface open and permeable, ensuring reliable performance even with the finest and most hydrophobic talc concentrates.
At Mondo Minerals’ Vuonos plant, these capabilities translate directly into process stability, consistent product quality and dependable moisture levels, all essential for high‑value talc production.
Roxia’s long‑term focus on filtration technology and continuous development of Tower Press™ solutions is strongly reflected in this project. We approach every delivery with the goal of providing practical and reliable solutions that support stable and predictable process performance.
“The cooperation with Mondo Minerals in Vuonos has been open and flexible. We clearly shared a common goal and worked together toward it. Mondo Minerals’ flexible way of handling matters was especially visible during commissioning. Whenever changes, corrections or additions were needed, everything was taken care of immediately. A very pleasant project,” says Tero Penttilä, Project Manager at Roxia.
We would like to thank Mondo Minerals B.V. for the excellent cooperation and trust.
